Resort Project Underway in Cambodia.

A controversial construction project began this week in Sihanoukville, Cabodia after what has been a very rough start. NewLife Resorts, a hotel-development company, was almost shut down last month when protestoes and eviroment activists took the streets of Phnom Penh. The Ministry of Ecological Prtection responded by demanding a full review of the resort plans, which added a long four-week delay. With things now in full swing, the parent company is hoping to open NewLife Paradise-Sihanoukville in July.

This will be Sihanoukville’s first health resort and the largest on built to date in Cambodia. Once complete, tourists can expect some impressive features. A total of 90 rooms, including 30 bungalows, will be built on a huge seven-hectare site. In addition to the 1.5 kilometer of private beach, resort guests are welcome touse the magnificent lap pool. A full day spa will be centrally located on site with an upscale restaurant, gardens and ponds.

The company has employed a local landscape architects to ensure that only native plants are found in the resort’s lush gardens and along its winding sand pathways. The architect has designed the resort to reflect Cambodia’s rich cultural heritage, incorporating elements of Khmer-style architecture itno the bungalows, day spa and restaurant.
